It has been a while since I got excited over a new Sigur Ros album. That is mainly due to after owning two of their albums ( ) and Takk and listening to the rest, I can't help but realizing that they all sound alike. While the previous albums have been consistent and always beautiful, after a while they become, for the lack of a better word, predictable. While still maintaining their majestically, lulling post-rock route, Med Sud I... offers new, refreshing sounds that I've never heard from them before. That's definitely exciting!
Med Sud I... opens with a few upbeat and engaging tracks, as if they supposed to signal the start of a good day, gently calms down through the end and ends with their first ever English lullaby, "All Alright". I never thought I'd ever use the word 'fun' to describe Sigur Ros, but honestly, I think they had fun, loosened up while recording the album (see also: nudity on album cover art) and weren't constricted to their angelic musical instruments. Although Med Sud I... is not out til June 24 (the day before my birthday, yay!), you can stream the complete album online here.
